The L.E.N.S.
Method

The L.E.N.S. Method™ is smartphone-camera friendly creative photography workshops and courses with a focus on personal growth and stress resilience, created by an award-winning photographer and mental health advocate, Carey Kirkella.

Carey offers workshops and courses for both adults and teens, and both in-person and virtually.

“Throughout my life, I’ve used the process of making photographs as a story-telling, healing conduit, and now I’ve formed that journey into a framework called The L.E.N.S. Method™ to help others.”

– Carey

L.E.N.S. stands for:

Light.

Photography is the study of light. The Light in me sees and salutes the light in you.

Empathy.

Sharing our photos and stories fosters empathy.

Now.

The photo story prompts are a practice in mindfulness and being in the present moment.

Storytelling.

Photography is a powerful tool to share stories. It’s also about becoming more aware of the internal ‘stories’ we tell ourselves.

Hi There, I’m Carey.

About

What everyone, including me, craves most of all is genuine human connection.

I believe that deconstructing the barrier between us and other people is a lifelong practice; and the more often we can get there, the better off we’ll all be.

I’m on a mission to help others improve their emotional wellbeing through creative photography.

An award-winning story-telling lifestyle and portrait photographer, I photograph advertising campaigns and branding image libraries for businesses. You can view my photography website and see more of my work here careykirkella.com

Photography as medicine
for the soul

We’re all living for those special moments of beauty, of wonder and of oneness.  All of us are capable of creating more of those moments in spades.

I believe sharing stories can save lives; and I’m on a mission to help others learn how they too can use the process of making photographs as a way to heal, and to grow.

Workshop Testimonials

“As a busy, full time working mom of 3, I found the workshop to be inspirational, beautiful and an act of self love and of self acceptance.

I came away with an enjoyable experience that helped me reinforce the awareness of my desire to slow down, and to truly be present during this fleeting time in my children’s lives as they’re growing up.”

– Kerrigan, working Mom of 3, Woodstock, NY

“The LENS Method workshop was such a powerful way to keep my day-to-day grounded in mindfulness. During the second session, where we told our story through the images captured, I was surprised at both how impactful and how different everyone’s experience was. I felt deeply connected to the other participants, and inspired to continue my personal journey.”
